Comet ISON, C/2012 S1, Will Cross Mars’ Orbit On October 1, 2013 With A 6.7 Million Mile (0.0723 AU) Separation.

That is five times closer than it will get to Earth, assuming it survives perihelion, on Boxing Day, December 26, 2013.

Those kind of ‘close’ there will be no dramatics. It will be shipping passing by in the night so to speak. With luck Mars Rover will send us pictures.

After October 1, just a week away, it starts getting very close to us.

It will cross Earth’s orbit, inbound, on November 2, 2013. The separation at that time will be 111.8 million miles, 1.2 AU. That is not CLOSE.
